Bjarki Announces New Album A Guide To Hellthier Lifestyle Set for December Release on Differance

Electronic music producer and sonic experimentalist Bjarki has officially announced his upcoming studio album, A Guide To Hellthier Lifestyle, scheduled for release on December 12. The forthcoming record marks a significant milestone as the inaugural full-length release on Differance, a newly established independent record label co-founded by the Icelandic artist alongside visual and multimedia artist Thomas Harrington Rawle. Designed as a comprehensive artistic statement rather than a collection of disparate singles, the album will be made available exclusively as a complete body of work, eschewing the traditional pre-release single rollout strategy that dominates the contemporary music industry.

The project arrives following a prolific period of creative exploration for the producer, whose career has spanned boundary-pushing techno, ambient, and IDM releases across prominent underground imprints. While A Guide To Hellthier Lifestyle will not feature traditional advance singles, Bjarki has shared a standalone track titled "10’000 Steps But Still Biting My Nails" to accompany the album announcement, alongside the official tracklist and initial pre-order details.

Conceptual Framework and Socio-Cultural Critique

At its core, A Guide To Hellthier Lifestyle functions as a conceptual inquiry into the psychological landscape of contemporary society. According to materials provided by the artist and the label, the record offers a critical, sideways rumination on modern wellness obsessions, lifestyle dilemmas, and the pervasive commodification of mental health. The album is framed as a direct response to the contemporary human condition, characterized by relentless self-optimization, digital surveillance, and an overarching culture of curated perfection.

In a candid statement detailing the genesis of the project, Bjarki explained that the album was initially catalyzed by a track he began recording while staying in California. The piece, titled "WOMB RIDER" on the final tracklist, explores the allegorical story of a soul mistakenly born into the wrong environment. During his time in North America, the producer observed a sharp increase in what he describes as the "wellness religion"—an omnipresent market of unregulated life coaching, algorithmic positivity, and ubiquitous self-care branding.

"It kicked off with a track I started in California—the story of a soul that got born into the wrong womb," Bjarki shared. "During that time, I was noticing more and more of this whole ‘wellness religion’ everywhere—people trying to sell you ‘good vibes’ and random people offering you life coaching sessions on Instagram who maybe have less life experience than a houseplant. All these apps that track our every move; it’s like they’re repackaging control and calling it ‘self-care’. Capitalism in yoga pants. That’s when I started putting A Guide To Hellthier Lifestyle together. A never-ending, self-improvement rabbit hole. We are all being sold this idea that we are not quite enough and we need to buy our way out to being better."

The critique extends to the omnipresence of digital health applications and wearable technology that monitor biometric data under the guise of autonomy, which Bjarki characterizes as corporate control reframed as personal empowerment.

Chronology of Production: From Satire to Sanctuary

The production timeline of A Guide To Hellthier Lifestyle reflects a dynamic shift in artistic methodology. Initially driven by frustration with modern consumer culture, Bjarki’s creative process took an unexpected detour into satire before returning to a more introspective, emotionally resonant approach.

Midway through the album’s development, the producer temporarily halted work on the core project to experiment with parallel concepts. He began developing a separate body of work rooted in satire, utilizing artificial intelligence voice generators to synthesize faux-serious speeches and mock wellness lectures. By programming custom voice models and inputting satirical texts, Bjarki aimed to directly caricature the rhetorical tactics employed by digital self-help gurus and life coaches.

This detour served as both a creative release and a nostalgic nod to his formative years in electronic music production. The artist noted that experimenting with text-to-speech algorithms mirrored his early experiences at age thirteen, when he first began experimenting with digital audio workstations like Fruity Loops and primitive text-to-speech utilities.

Bjarki Returns with New Album

Following this experimental interlude, Bjarki returned to the primary album with a renewed perspective. Seeking isolation and a change of scenery to finalize the record, he relocated a portion of his studio to the Latvian countryside, spending several months immersed in a rural environment far removed from the hyper-connected urban centers that inspired the album’s initial critique.

"I moved part of my studio to Latvia and continued in the countryside for a few months," Bjarki said, reflecting on the concluding phase of production. "I realised that I just wanted to give people something beautiful. This album is a big hug from me to the world. So, yeah, this album is all of that. It’s spiritual, bits and pieces from the past, all these weird cultural moments, and whatever strange places my head goes. It’s a reflection, a rebellion, a bit of a piss take. But mostly, it’s just me, doing what I do."

Sonic Architecture and Experimental Influences

From a sound design perspective, A Guide To Hellthier Lifestyle represents an intricate exploration of psychoacoustics and experimental composition. Bjarki investigated how specific audio frequencies can directly impact human consciousness, situational awareness, mood, and cognitive states, ultimately shaping an individual’s subjective perception of reality.

Sonically, the album draws distinct inspiration from pioneers of industrial, ambient, and electronic composition. Traces of Coil, Genesis P-Orridge, and Paul Lansky inform the structural and textural choices throughout the record. The resulting sound design deliberately bridges the physical and imaginative realms. Tracks alternate between functioning as contemplative sanctuaries that encourage deep listening and disorienting compositions that induce a sense of estrangement, unease, and digital disconnection.

Rather than relying on conventional club-oriented structures, the thirteen-track sequence is designed to be experienced continuously. The absence of advance singles underscores the artist’s intent for the album to be consumed as a singular narrative journey, encouraging listeners to engage with the thematic and sonic shifts without the distraction of piecemeal marketing campaigns.

Differance Records and Future Implications

The establishment of the Differance label, co-founded by Bjarki and Thomas Harrington Rawle, represents a strategic move toward absolute creative autonomy for the Icelandic producer. By operating outside the constraints of traditional major independent structures, Differance provides a dedicated platform for uncompromising, conceptually driven audio-visual art.

The launch of Differance and the rollout of A Guide To Hellthier Lifestyle highlight a growing trend among electronic music artists who seek to bypass the singles-driven ecosystem dictated by modern streaming algorithms. By opting for a simultaneous, unheralded full-album release on December 12, Bjarki is positioning the record as an antidote to the fast-paced, consumable content cycle that his album explicitly critiques.

The commercial and critical implications of this release model will be closely watched within the underground electronic music community. As major and independent labels increasingly prioritize short-form digital engagement, Bjarki’s deliberate pivot toward a comprehensive, high-concept long-player—backed by a robust critique of contemporary wellness culture—offers a compelling counter-narrative.
